OUR GRADS

With more than 73,000 + graduates hailing from more than 73 countries, the Full Sail University alumni network is extensive and globe-spanning. Our international grads work in a wide range of roles throughout the entertainment industry, whether in the U.S., back in their home countries, or elsewhere in the world. Here are just a few stories about some of our international alumni.

Shyam Bandugula:
Film Industry Innovation in India

Film Production MFA graduate Shyam Bandugula launched his bilingual company, Sravanthi Media House, located in Hyderabad, India in late 2015. What began as an interest in filmmaking has turned into a full-fledged production house; the company offers video production, advertisement solutions, and media and web distribution.

After graduating from Full Sail in 2014, Shyam returned to India and started his own company in order to provide opportunities for new filmmakers that might not get the chance otherwise. The obstacles these artists face can be economical, political, or even just a lack of family history in the film industry.

“I noticed the struggles of these people and wanted to create a new platform that could help talented filmmakers start their careers and entertain the world,” says Shyam.

Sravanthi Media House also produces and distributes film content that’s available exclusively online, making this company the first of its kind in India to do so.

Arthur Luna:
Recording Engineer in Brazil

After graduating from Full Sail’s Recording Arts degree program in 2013, Arthur Luna returned home to Brazil, where he works out of Cia dos Tecnicos, the Rio de Janeiro studio his grandfather owns. He’s worked with Shakira, Brian McKnight, and more.

“I was already working as an engineer in Brazil [before coming to Full Sail], but my parents really wanted me to graduate from college, so I decided to go abroad and study something that I love,” says Arthur. “My favorite class was Audio Workstations; the instructors would compare Pro Tools to analog recorders. They taught us new technology, but never forgot to mention the older stuff too, which I loved because I grew up in the studio.”

The Luna family’s contribution to the Brazilian music industry goes decades. Arthur’s grandfather was the owner of one of the first recording studios in Rio, which hosted artists like Brazilian legends Roberto Carlos and Tim Maia, as well as Stevie Wonder. Now, Arthur’s forging his own path, racking up more than seven Latin GRAMMY nominations in the past few years.

Akira Otaguro:
Casting for Japanese Films

In 2006, Akira Otaguro made a bold move. Newly graduated from Full Sail’s Film program, the native of Japan was struck by the way movies like Memoirs of a Geisha and The Last Samurai were exporting Japanese culture to the West.

“I thought there must be someone who was connecting Hollywood and Japan,” says Akira. “So I checked the IMDB Pro website and found a common name credited on all of the movies: [Casting Director] Yoko Narahash.” Akira decided to reach out to the industry icon.

“I wrote a long email to her company’s ‘info’ address introducing myself and expressing my desire to work with her and share Japan with a wider foreign audience,” Akira says. “After exchanging emails over time, I met her and was hired.”

Since then Akira has received a Casting Assistant credit on numerous films, including 47 Ronin, Emperor, and Wolverine Samurai.

“In 47 Ronin, we auditioned tons of actors because there were are all Japanese characters except Keanu Reeves’,” he says. “Happily, lots of the actors we hired were really good actors but were not famous in Japan. I found myself introducing Japanese actors to not only a foreign audience but also a Japanese one.”

Salo Saoloveichik:
Music Festival Production in Mexico City

While still a student in Full Sail’s Show Production degree program, Salo Soloveichik had already made a name for himself in his home country of Mexico. Having been involved in the music production business for years – booking and promoting small shows, working for friends’ companies, and helping organize a concert in Mexico City that attracted 80,000 people – all of which led up to a gig as the General Producer and Operations Manager for Mexico’s Bahidora Music Festival. The festival drew more than 5,000 people to a small resort town 90 minutes outside of Mexico City for 18 straight hours of live music and entertainment.

“Mexico has grown a lot in the industry so [the country] does have big music festivals with big names, but the company that hired me wanted to do a festival that was different,” says Salo, “where you wouldn’t go for the artist, you would go for the experience.”

Bahidora featured performances from more than a dozen electronic acts, including Polica, Baths, and Wild Belle, and several major sponsors (like Doritos and Axe) had areas set up around the grounds for other activities. Salo says the best thing about Bahidora is its location – in the Las Estacas National Park.
